Deep teardown of AOHI 120W 4-port GaN desktop charger

As the best friend of desktop, AOHI 120w charging station (model number AOC-C006) is impressive by its compact design and high-powered GaN innovation. It contains two USB-A connectors and two USB-C ports, which are ideal for a range of computer, phone, and tablet accessories.

Thanks to its 120W high power output, you can rapidly charge four devices at the same time. It means you'll never encounter a better one in a short time. Let us take a closer look at the product itself.

First of all, here is the package of Aohi 120W charger including 1 AOHI Magcube 120W desktop charger, 1 4ft AC extension cord and 1 instruction manual

The parameters and certifications of the power station is on the back:

Model: AOC-CO06

Input: 100-240V~ 50/60Hz 3.5A Max

USB-C Output: 5V-3A,9V-3A,12V-3A,15V-3A,20V-5A PPS3.3-21V-5A100W Max Each Port

USB-A Output: 5V-3A, 9V-2A, 12V-1.5A 18W Max Each Port

It took some effort to make it seem more traditional and small with the amazing 3-colored indicators. They are exactly what they need to be, with a PC explosion-proof casing, seamless transition, and Alloy ornamental plate.

8-character socket is used on the input terminal.

The AOHI logo appears on one side of the column-like body.

The other side highlights its GaN tech and 120W high power output.

There are parameters at the bottom that refer to its certifications and outputs.

Two USB-A and two USB-C ports with distinctive yellow tongues and three stages of lighting are located on the top of the body. Amber breathing light indicates quick charging, blue solid light indicates standard charging, and green solid light indicates trickle charging.

In general, the charger is really adorable, and its length is only 84.75mm (3.3 inches).

The width is 45.1mm (1.8 inches).

The thickness is 45.16mm (1.8 inches).

To make it more understandable, we compared it to Apple's 140W charger, which is larger and has just one USB-C port.

As you hold it in your hand, you can feel that it is of high quality and is tiny.

The net weight is approximately 327g, or 0.72 lb.

After testing, the USB-C port supports Apple 2.4A, Samsung 5V2A, DCP protocol, and QC2.0/3.0, PD3.0, PPS fast charging protocol.

Besides, it shows that the USB-C port also has five fixed voltage of 5V3A, 9V3A, 12V3A, 15V3A, and 20V5A, and PPS voltage of 3.3-21V5A.

It is measured that another C-port compatible protocol is exactly the same.

According to the result, the two USB-C ports are exactly the same, both supporting 100W PD fast charging and power blind insertion, which is convenient for daily use.

In addition, it is measured that the two USB-A ports are exact the same, supporting QC2.0/3.0, AFC, and FCP fast charging protocols.

Cut the shell and take out the charger module. You will see it is packaged by metal heat sink to cool down the inside temperature.

Remove the heat sink, and the module is welded together with four tiny PCB boards with capacitors, transformers and others in it, which makes the internal structure considerably firmer and more stable.

To minimize the influence, Aohi GaN desktop charger is built with four separate chips. They all come from well-known company PI, which focuses on fast-charging solutions. The PI solution help to decrease the size of the charger and speeds up the charging time due to its high integration and comprehensive features. It is said that Apple fast charging chip is also provided by PI.

In conclusion, with a neutral black housing, a silver-gray decorative panel, and indication lights on the top, the Aohi 120W GaN desktop charger follow the classical style of the Magcube family. It has two USB-A and two USB-C ports and provides fast charging outputs of up to 100W and 18W independently. Thanks to its wide compatibility, QC2.0/3.0, AFC, FCP, PD3.0, and PPS fast charging protocols, it must be your best friend of desktop to charge cell phone, laptop and any other devices as you need.
